Largs Beach Pencil Monument and beach walk. Off Largs beach, all of which are dog friendly all year round but must be kept under control or on a lead. Largs’ most famous monument is The Pencil, situated at the south end of the Prom, near to Largs Marina. The Pencil was built in 1912, to commemorate the Battle of Largs 1263, when the Scots defeated King Haco of Norway’s troops on the shore at Largs, after the 160 longships got caught in a storm. Largs is very famous for its Viking connections, and there is an interactive exhibition called the Viking Experience, open all year round at the Vikingar! in Largs.
One of Scotland’s prefered dog friendly beaches.Cullen Beach is an attractive sandy beach with excellent water quality and plenty of space. Behind the large rocks named the ‘Three Kings’, is Cullen Beach, a wide expanse of golden sand. The beach sits in front of Cullen Golf Course and there are plenty of coastal walks and trails to follow. Cullen Bay is well sheltered by the surrounding cliffs and moray dolphins are often spotted from the beach and bay. There is free car parking underneath the viaduct with facilities beside the golf clubhouse. Dogs are allowed on the beach all year round but must be kept under control or on a lead.
Westport Beach, Campbeltown, Mull of Kintyre This ruggedly beautiful beach has plenty to keep dogs busy. It stretches for over six miles, with the biggest sand dune area in Argyll, and its position on the windy west coast of creates an abundance of waves to splash in.
